Life of the Fighter Pilot, Part 8

Should a fighter pilot have the misfortune to be shot down, once he leaves his aircraft he enters a whole different realm of combat, survival.  Even the fighter pilots of the RAF, during the Battle of Britain, were supplied with life support equipment that would get them to the ground and then help them to survive, escape and evade.  The lessons they learned over six decades ago are still applicable today.  This video could save your life after a shoot-down, should you find yourself in hostile territory.

Ultimate Fighter Pilot Food

Krispy Kreme Bacon CheeseburgersFighter pilots often times have to eat fast. Between planning, briefing, final tweaking, step to the jets, launch and fly, there’s little time to squeeze in a quality meal. Those days are over. Here at Fighter Pilot University our nutritionists have developed an all-encompassing meal. It’s got all the food groups. It’s got carbs for quick power and protein for prolonged energy. It is the perfect fighter pilot meal. It is a Krispy Kreme bacon cheeseburger.

Everyone knows the nutritional value of a cheeseburger. If you’re not familiar with a Krispy Kreme, it’s a melt in your mouth, kickass, high-sugar buzz, glazed doughnut.

What could be better? Plenty of sugar for the fast pick-me-up, carbs from the doughnut for second stage vigor, simple protein cheese for third stage power kick in and finally, the bacon and burger for long term energy.  These thing will keep you going all day.

Yes, we did say all food groups. Cheese—dairy, sugar—grain, doughnut—carb, bacon and beef—protein and everyone knows that pigs and cows, yes, that's where bacon and beef comes from respectively, eat corn and just about any other plant so there’s your vegetable. At least that’s what our nutritionists are telling us. Fighter Pilot University’s nutritionists are the tops in their field.  Of course, nutrition isn’t their field but that’s beside the point.

Fighter pilots everywhere, dig in.

Life of the Fighter Pilot, Part 7

One of the most difficult things for a fighter pilot to do when he’s in combat is to stay in touch with the real world. In spite of phone calls, letters and e-mails, because the fighter pilot is immersed in a world of extreme tension and life or death struggle he has trouble relating his situation to others and grasping what’s going on outside his combat environment. The following video shows how RAF fighter pilots, even during the dark days of the Battle of Britain, would look for any opportunity to connect to their life away from the stress of warfare.
