The most kickass military air show in the world takes place in Switzerland each October. This is a quite unique air power demonstration that occurs on Ebenfluh Firing Range high on Axalphorn Mountain. As you can see from the photos and video below it's not a show for the meek, mainly because, after a gondola ride that begins at 0630, the range is still a 1 1/12 hour hike up the mountain.

Ebenfluh Range sits 7614' (2321m) above sea level. Again, a quite unique range utilized by the Swiss Air Force. Just about everything in their inventory shows up for the air show; helicopters, parachute teams, PC-21 trainers, F-5 Freedom Fighters and the F/A-18 Hornets. In typical air show fashion there's lots of flybys, flares, ooo's and aaa's. But, what really makes the Axalp Demo special is the opportunity for the folks that are willing to make the trek to see and hear fighter aircraft strafe right there in front of the crowd.
The range has two strafe target configurations. One on the side of a hill, the other on the face of a rock cliff. Targets are around 250 meters below the viewing audience. The flights of F-5's and F/A-19's fly their strafing patterns in front of the crowd and strafe almost right there in amongst them. Kickass!!
Once again, the usual question. Why don't they build a pub up there?
