Blue Four

Posted by Jolly on August 29, 2014

I just learned of the tragic loss of a fellow Eagle brother.  Moose Fontenot flew west this week while driving the mighty Eagle.  Moose was a squadron mate in the 390th Wild Boars as a Lieutenant.  He always had a huge smile on his face, never settled for anything less than being the best, and he and his lovely wife Kara were the kind of two ship that made flying fighters so much fun.  As a Fighting Cock Alum, I was so proud when Moose and Kara led the 67th Fighter Squadron to winning the Ratheon Trophy.  Kara has requested that friends send your favorite memories of Moose to: mooseF15@mac.com.

Fighter Pilot University would like to dedicate "Blue Four" by Dick Jonas to our fallen brother Moose Fontenot.    Here's a nickel on the grass to a great fighter pilot and American warrior.  Tail winds until we meet again my friend.

Blue Four
By Dick Jonas

There's a fireball down there on the hillside, And I think may be we've lost a friend,

But we'll keep on flying and we'll keep on dying, For duty and honor never end.

There's an upended glass on the table,
Down in front a lone empty chair.
Yesterday we were with him, today God be with him,
Wherever he is in your care.

They were four when they took off this morning,
And their duty was there in the sky.
Only three ships returning, Blue Four ain't returning,
To Blue Four hold your glasses high.

There's a fireball down there on the hillside,
And I think may be we've lost a friend.
But we'll keep on flying and we'll keep on dying,
For duty and honor never end.

Thank you for all the great songs. In 1972 we sang your songs at DaNang and it really helps us get thru some tough times. Especially this song, and I like to send my dedication to all those we lost.
