Happy Veterans Day

Posted by Jolly on November 11, 2014

Happy Veterans Day all you Vets!  I really like this song by Toby Keith, it seems to hit home on Veterans Day for me anyway.  Now go enjoy your free lunch at Applebee's, you've earned it!  Thanks to great organizations like Applebee's for having their priorities in order.

Tough to watch. Great visuals. I am glad that I didn't have any kids when I went to 'Nam.

"American Soldier" is about a soldier who is headed off to war. Willing to take a stand and do what he feels is right. He is prepared to die "because freedom don't come free."

The music video was directed by Michael Salomon and was released on December 14, 2003. It was filmed on location at Edwards Air Force Base in Edwards, California and features off-duty soldiers, reservists and their families. The video portrays a man who gets a phone call early one morning to go to war. He gets himself and his family ready in the morning, the guy acting like it's just another day, and they head off to a military base for him to leave for the war. He hugs his wife and kids, and gets on the plane, while his family watches sadly and wave goodbye from the gate as the plane leaves. Inter-cut between this are scenes of soldiers from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and Desert Storm.

The song on Toby's album,Shock'n Y'all, has been mandatory listening for my grandkids for ten years now. The other great song on the album is "I Love This Bar."

I just watched the video and brought tears to my eyes. Because I'm a twenty year vet. Which I miss military life. I also want to thank all vets past, present and future for putting on the uniform to serve this greeat country.
